Interpersonal Synchrony + Making

Interpersonal Synchrony + MakingThere are things happening between us all the time that we rarely stop to notice.

We watch without staring.

Influence without instructing.

Borrow ideas.

Match rhythms.

Pass things before they are asked for.

Sit comfortably in silence.

One person becomes bolder and suddenly the whole table loosens. Someone slows down and the person beside them does too. An idea begins in one pair of hands and quietly travels across the room.

Science calls some of this interpersonal synchrony: the subtle ways our movements, attention, behaviour and even aspects of our physiology can begin to coordinate when we share an experience.

We might simply call it energy.

Not necessarily something we can touch or see, but something we can feel happening in the space between us.

And once you start paying attention to it, it becomes difficult not to look for it.
That is what interests us about collective making.

Not simply what each person creates, but what begins to emerge between the people creating it.

What gets transmitted without being spoken?

What do we pick up from one another?

What changes in us when we spend time moving, noticing and making alongside other people?

At Lumii, we're interested in creating experiences where we can become a little more conscious of this invisible exchange.

Because perhaps the most interesting thing being made around the table isn't always the thing in our hands.
